Upgradi̇ng of the Hydrological Forecasting System in Poland

چکیده
After the disastrous flood event of 1997 in Poland, the main concern was to upgrade and modernize the existing System of Hydrological Forecasting. The new System of Hydrology (SH) that had to be developed for entire Poland was implemented as an important component of the Emergency Flood Recovery Project, financed by the World Bank. A detailed design was worked out in 2000 and a new SH was elaborated and implemented in close cooperation with the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management (IMGW), between 2001 and 2005. The new System of Hydrology was developed as an entirely new hydrologic information system, encompassing a modeling platform, integrating different kind of models, including the existing hydrological models used in the forecasting service before implementation of the SH. The modernized SH is an open forecasting system, allowing integration of other methods also in the future, which uses the information from the different meteorological forecasting services available at the Institute as a very likely to occur ensemble forecasting.

Forecasting of Groundwater Table and Water Budget under Different Drought Scenarios using MODFLOW Model (Case Study: Garbaygan Plain, Fars Province, Iran)
Groundwater drought is a natural hazard that develops when groundwater systems are affected by climatical drought, when climatical drought occures, first groundwater recharge, later groundwater levels and groundwater discharge decrease. The origin of drought is a deficit in precipitation and that takes place in all the elements that comprise the hydrological cycle (flow in the rivers, soil mois...
متن کاملHydrological Drought Forecasting Using Stochastic Models (Case Study: Karkheh watershed Basin)
Hydrological drought refers to a persistently low discharge and volume of water in streams and reservoirs, lasting months or years. Hydrological drought is a natural phenomenon, but it may be exacerbated by human activities. Hydrological droughts are usually related to meteorological droughts, and their recurrence interval varies accordingly. This study pursues to identify a stochastic model (o...

Drought as a natural phenomenon characterized by a significant decrease of water availability during a period of time and over a large area. In recent years, droughts and its frequent in arid and semi-arid regions like Iran on the one hand, and water demand has been rising on the other hand and, as a result, their impacts are being aggravated. Therefore, the meteorological and hydrological...

An operational hydrological ensemble forecasting system based on a meteorological ensemble prediction system (M-EPS) coupled with a hydrological model searches to capture the uncertainties associated with the meteorological prediction to better predict river flows. However, the structure of the hydrological model is also an important source of uncertainty that has to be taken into account. This...
متن کاملDeveloping Flood Forecasting Systems: Examples from the Uk, Europe, and Pakistan
Provision of early flood warning is an important strategy in reducing flood damage and loss of life. To increase warning lead-time and mitigate impacts more efficiently, flood forecasting systems are increasingly becoming an essential step in the warning process. Development of these has traditionally been initiated by local authorities, and often these systems were no more than a dedicated use...
